2009 Mazda CX-7 GT Review
by Bertrand Godin / Auto123.com
Since the introduction of the Miata in 1990, Mazda has understood one important thing: it's not just about building a vehicle, that vehicle has to become an extension of the driver. The idea of driving enjoyment has become the dogma behind each and every Mazda product.

The CX-7 has quickly become one of the key players in the mid-size SUV class.

The CX-7, widely derived from the 2005 MX-Crossport Concept, perfectly embodies the idea of sport in the term "sport utility vehicle". In addition to devastating good looks for a third year running, the CX-7 boasts the technical prowess true the brand's dynamics.

The front light clusters look mean when viewed head on, while from the side the curvaceous fenders lend it a dignified air. Mazda's stylists have managed to breathe the soul of a coupe into an SUV. Congratulations are in order.

The cabin features rigid styling unusual for the brand. We're more apt to see this type of interior on its German counterparts. However, its Mazda roots are strikingly apparent, and it features the brand's typical triple air vents and instrument cluster.

Boasting flawless ergonomics, it's as efficient and enjoyable as ever. The slightly raised dash board allows for easy access to the intuitive controls. As with all of Mazda's recent products, the finish is as nice inside as out. However, despite the evident quality, there are too many plastics and the combination of materials is, well, interesting.

The equipment level of my test model didn't set it apart from the rest of its class. It featured an adequate number of accessories that make the vehicle functional for most jobs. The ventilation system is very competent. Among the goodies on offer are, of course, a reverse camera and touch-screen navigation system. The Bose stereo has a ten-disc capacity and distributes sound through nine speakers.

The slightly raised dash board allows for easy access to the intuitive controls.
