1. Mazda Leads IIHS Safety Rankings in 2026
In 2026, Mazda earned eight IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+ awards, covering models such as the Mazda3 Sedan and Hatchback, CX-30, CX-50, CX-70, CX-70 PHEV, CX-90, and CX-90 PHEV.
These results are particularly notable because IIHS introduced stricter testing standards in 2026, including tougher rear-seat protection requirements and more demanding crash-avoidance evaluations at highway speeds. Mazda met these updated criteria across its lineup.
Since 2008, Mazda has also built a strong long-term safety record, earning 99 IIHS awards in total, including 73 TOP SAFETY PICK+ honours. This reflects nearly two decades of steady improvement in crash protection and safety engineering.

Mazda was also named the first-ever “Safest New-Car Brand” by Consumer Reports under its Safety Verdict program.

It also requires strong reliability ratings alongside safety performance. Models like the CX-30, CX-50, and Mazda3 ranked at the top in this assessment.
